Renacci introduces legislation to secure funding for the nation’s infrastructure

As the Senate prepared to pass a short-term extension of the Highway Trust Fund earlier this week, U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci (R-OH) reiterated that Congress needs to focus on a long-term solution to the nation’s deteriorating infrastructure.

“Another short-term patch for something as important as investing in our infrastructure is unacceptable,” Renacci said. “As a former business owner, I understand the need for long-term certainty and predictability for our cities and states, as well as our road builders and users. Given our country’s dire fiscal situation, it is difficult to find the funds for long-term solutions without adding to the deficit.”

The Bridge to Sustainable Infrastructure Act, which Renacci introduced, would ensure that Congress provides funding for the nation’s transportation infrastructure for a minimum of 10 years, creating an environment of certainty and predictability for states, counties and cities.

“(The funding shortfalls are) exactly why I introduced a bipartisan long-term solution – the Bridge to Sustainable Infrastructure Act,” Renacci concluded. “To provide the users of our roads, our workers, and state and local governments with the certainty that the costs of our inaction will not be passed down to our children and grandchildren.”
