Rep. Jackie Walorski expresses concern over results of Iran negotiation

As the final seconds ticked away and the June 30 deadline for a nuclear agreement with Iran expired, U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-IN) issued a statement discussing her frustration regarding the troubling issue.

“Today, the administration failed to finalize a nuclear agreement with Iran and extended the deadline by another week,” Walorski said. “The United States has already made significant concessions in these negotiations, and I am concerned that extending these talks will only increase the inevitability of Iran’s development of a nuclear weapon.”

Walorski went on to say that she was calling for aggressive congressional oversight to protect all Americans from the threat of the development of Iranian nuclear weapons.

“Congress has no greater responsibility than to ensure Americans around the globe are safe from lawless regimes gaining access to nuclear weapons,” she said. “With the seemingly endless instability in the Middle East, the last thing we need is for a country in the region to be permitted to develop nuclear weapons.”

She also referred to
her support of legislation, which has since been signed into law, that
will provide a period of 30 days for Congress to review any agreement
between our current administration and the government of Iran.

“In light of these developments, I call on my colleagues in the House and the Senate to reject any deal entered into by this administration that permits Iran to continue their illegal imprisonment of American citizens, prematurely lifts Iranian sanctions and provides Iran with the resources necessary to develop nuclear weapons,” Walorski said.
