Lawmaker praises court for upholding injunction on Obama’s immigration action

U.S. Rep. Candice Miller (R-MI) released a statement on Tuesday praising the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit after it upheld an injunction issued by U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen.

The injunction blocked President Obama’s Deferred Action for Parents of American and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) executive action, which also includes a provision to expand the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

“President Obama’s executive action on immigration was a blatant constitutional overreach that would have automatically granted amnesty to millions of immigrants here illegally,” Miller said. “He himself has said on 22 occasions that he lacks the authority to take such action.

“I agree, and it appears that the courts do as well,” Miller said. “I applaud today’s ruling and am confident that the final constitutional questions regarding this matter will properly be decided in the courts – where they belong.”
