Tiberi applauds Senate passage of Medicare reform bill

U.S. Rep. Pat Tiberi (R-OH), a member of the Ways and Means Committee, said Wednesday he applauds the Senate’s passage of H.R. 2, the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act.

“Sending H.R. 2, the Medicare reform bill that fixes the Sustainable Growth Rate and makes structural reforms to Medicare, to the president’s desk is a win for all Americans,” Tiberi said. “It puts Medicare on a more sustainable path for our seniors. I am also pleased that my measure to require binding bids in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ durable medical equipment competitive bidding program was included in this bill.”

Tiberi also said the bill will bring more transparency to the process for equipment suppliers, therefore ensuring seniors have access to higher quality services.

H.R. 2 permanently replaces Medicare’s Sustainable Growth Rate for the physician payment system with a long-term solution to improve the Medicare payment system. It extends the State Children’s Health Insurance Program through fiscal year 2017.

On March 26, Tiberi said his bill, the Medicare Competitive Bidding Act, was included in H.R. 2, when it passed the U.S. House of Representatives on a 392-37 vote. Tiberi, along with Rep. John Larson (D-CT), introduced the bill to create a fairer durable medical equipment bidding process.
