Shuster spreads infrastructure funding message across home state

U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster (R-PA) wrapped up his two-day Pennsylvania Roadshow on Wednesday, during which he toured the state, calling for long-term investments in roads, highways and other infrastructure in his home state and across the nation.

The tour covered 300 miles of Pennsylvania roads and highways throughout six counties, featuring numerous officials from the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee (on which Shuster serves as chairman), transportation secretaries from several states, and local government and business leaders.

“Pennsylvania’s roads and bridges are in need of repairs and investments,” Shuster said. “I am continuing to work as chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to ensure that Congress strengthens our infrastructure by passing a long-term surface transportation bill. This tour allowed us to deliver our message to Pennsylvanians that a strong infrastructure will make for safer roads and new opportunities for economic growth for our region.”

As Shuster reminded his guests that a long-term surface transportation bill remains a top priority for his office, the tour event made stops at two Pennsylvania bridges in dire need of repair, as well as areas along the major transportation artery of Interstate 81. The event also included several roundtable discussions covering infrastructure concerns in various locations.

“Without a strong transportation network across the country, this nation cannot remain competitive with the rest of the world,” Shuster said. “The federal role is clearly outlined in the Constitution, and it’s time Congress makes long-term investments in our roads and bridges that will benefit the American people now and in the future.”
