Miller praises court’s rejection of bid to lift hold on executive orders

After U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen rejected the Obama administration’s request to remove the court’s hold on the president’s executive actions on immigration, U.S. Rep. Candice Miller (R-MI) said in a statement on Wednesday that she supports the ruling.

“I applaud U.S. District Judge Hanen’s decision to forcefully reject the administration’s request to lift the court’s injunction on President Obama’s executive action on immigration, a blatant constitutional overreach that would have automatically granted amnesty to millions of immigrants here illegally,” Miller said. “Additionally, I share the Judge’s frustration over the administration’s dishonesty in reporting the over 100,000 applicants that have already been processed since the president announced his intent to implement his executive actions in November.”

The court’s blocking of the executive action is known as the Deferred Action for Parents of American and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) program. It also includes a measure that would expand the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

“This decision, which I hope the Court of Appeals will uphold, is a clear victory for the 26 states, including Michigan, that have filed suit, as well as those of us fighting to stop President Obama’s constitutional overreach,” Miller said. “The constitutional questions regarding this matter will properly be decided in the courts. However, it is Congress’ responsibility to secure the borders, and I am hopeful that the border security bill, which recently passed the Homeland Security Committee, will be taken up and debated soon by the full House.”
