Impact of EPA policies on farmers, executive overreach highlight Blunt event

Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) discussed on Friday how EPA policies on energy, utilities and water impact farm families during a stop at a family farm outside of La Plata, Mo.

Blunt also talked about his vote to authorize House Speaker Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio) to proceed with a lawsuit that would compel President Obama to uphold his constitutional responsibilities.

“Missourians are rightly concerned about excessive regulation by the Obama administration, particularly the EPA’s burdensome energy, utility and water policies, which affect potentially our whole state,” Blunt said. “There are other ways to deal with these important issues that won’t dramatically raise costs on consumers or serve as a blatant overreach into Missourians’ private lives and property, and challenging those excessive regulations is an important thing.”

Blunt called for congressional support of the Executive Needs to Faithfully Observe and Respect Congressional Enactments of the Law (ENFORCE the Law) Act, which he co-sponsored to enable Congress to authorize a court case against the executive branch for failing to faithfully execute laws. The House of Representatives approved the measure in March.

“It’s the president’s constitutional responsibility to faithfully execute the law, and Americans are rightly concerned about executive overreach and dysfunction under the current administration,” Blunt previously said. “This bill restores the system of checks and balances and reiterates the importance of the Constitution’s curb on runaway executive branch power.”

Additionally, Blunt co-sponsored the Protecting Water and Property Rights Act in June. The measure would prevent the EPA from expanding federal jurisdiction under the Clean Water Act.
