Calvert laments Obama administration’s handling of border crisis

Rep. Ken Calvert (R-Calif.) said on Wednesday that President Obama’s decision to transport illegal immigrants who were captured at the Texas border to communities in southern California has fueled the problem.

Calvert said the president hasn’t communicated with the affected communities, and a lack of coordination and management has compounded the problem.

“My constituents and I continue to be frustrated by the open borders policies and pro-amnesty positions of our president that have motivated so many of the immigrants we see illegally entering our country,” Calvert said.

Calvert said that when Congress reconvenes, he will work with his colleagues to provide extra resources to the Rio Grand Valley to immediately process, adjudicate and deport the detained immigrants.

“We must send a strong signal to would-be illegal immigrants that anyone entering our nation illegally will be returned to their country of origin,” Calvert said.

Action has also been taken, Calvert said, to address public health and public safety concerns raised by officials in Riverside County, Calif., where illegal immigrants have been transported to the Murrieta Border Patrol station for processing.

“I am and continue to be opposed to the Obama administration’s decision to transport illegal immigrants detained in Texas to the Murrieta Border Patrol station; however, if they insist on taking this action, Riverside County residents expect them to put in place sufficient health and public safety procedures,” Calvert said. “Riverside County has offered to place its mobile health clinic at the Murrieta station to assist with health screenings, treatment and immunizations.”
