Republican Study Committee legislation would promote job creation

Republican Study Committee Chairman Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) unveiled a measure on Wednesday designed to create hundreds of thousands of jobs and ensure economic security for families and small businesses.

The Jumpstarting Opportunities with Bold Solutions Act would enhance U.S. energy production, rein in federal regulations and repeal the requirement that union wages must be paid for all government contracting jobs.

“The best way to get our economy back on track is by passing bold conservative solutions that get America working again,” Scalise said. “…The JOBS Act builds on many strong proposals that have been championed by RSC members and advanced by House Republicans. This effort represents the necessary next step in a bold agenda to solve problems and rebuild an America that works. It is a comprehensive approach to jumpstart economic growth and revive the American dream for people from all walks of life.”

Under the measure, the Keystone XL oil pipeline would be approved, coal regulations would be rolled back, the outer continental shelf would be open for domestic energy production and federal regulations on hydraulic fracturing would be prohibited in states that already have regulations in place.

“By unleashing the power of American energy, reforming federal labor laws, promoting transparency and accountability in the regulatory process and spurring investment in local businesses, we will provide opportunities for millions of Americans to succeed with good, high-paying jobs,” Scalise said.

The legislation would also eliminate regulations that inhibit capital from being invested in businesses and provide regulatory relief to community banks and credit unions to promote lending to small businesses and consumers.
