Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wis.) recently held a daylong summit on hunger and homelessness to explore how federal and state programs work together and how access to community resources can be improved.
The summit, which was held in Wausa, Wis., drew volunteers and representatives from dozens of non-profit organizations.
“My team and I wanted to do what we could to try to make a difference with those who have fallen on hard times and make sure we can collaborate together on community resources,” Duffy said. “Also, (we want to) collaborate on the federal and state side to make sure resources don’t just flow to the urban parts of the country but can actually come to the parts of the country that have real problems but don’t have huge staffs to cut through the red tape.”
National Alliance to End Homelessness Vice President Steve Berg delivered the summit’s keynote address and led a session that challenged attendees to implement something they learned at the event in their own organization.
“We found that by reaching out to each other and building a coalition within our community, we can be more effective in our efforts to serve the neediest in our area,” Duffy said.
