Chairman of the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Subcommittee Rep. Ander Crenshaw (R-Fla.) voted to pass the Federal Employee Retroactive Pay Fairness Act, H.R. 3223, on Friday.
Crenshaw cosponsored the legislation, which ensures retroactive pay for federal employees who are furloughed during the government shutdown.
The measure, which passed by a vote of 407-0, now moves to the Senate.
“House Republicans are fighting to fund government operations,” Crenshaw said. “Part of that mission means making 800,000 furloughed federal employees receive their pay; it’s the right thing to do. These men and women do not deserve to be the victims of Washington gridlock and should have their pay made whole in the end.”
Crenshaw, who was appointed by House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to the Conference Committee to resolve the current government shutdown, also announced that he will donate his salary to charities in his congressional district during the shutdown.
A 1966 graduate of the University of Georgia, Crenshaw holds a law degree from the University of Florida. Before being elected to Congress, Crenshaw served as an investment banker. He was a member of the Florida State House of Representatives from 1972 to 1978 and in the Florida State Senate from 1986 to 1994.
