Frelinghuysen returns from foreign relations meetings in Israel

Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-N.J.) recently returned from a trip to the State of Israel where he examined its current security relationship with the United States.

“The State of Israel has long been one of the United States’ closest allies in the Middle East and around the world,” Frelinghuysen said. “It is our responsibility to closely examine threats posed by violent extremists to our mutual interests of freedom, democracy and regional stability.”

Frelinghuysen, the Defense Appropriations Committee liaison to the House Select Intelligence Committee, accompanied Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.) on the trip. The pair met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Shimon Peres, Knesset Speaker Yuli-Yoel Edelstein and defense leadership officials.

The continued threats of violence promoted the specific security discussions. The talks included the implications for a nuclear Iran, the humanitarian crisis in Syria, political disruption in Egypt and negotiations with the Palestinian Authority, according to Frelinghuysen.

Ros-Lehtinen is the former chairwoman of the Foreign Affairs Committee and current chairwoman of the Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa.

Frelinghuysen is a member of the Appropriations Committee and serves as chairman of the Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee. He also sits in the vice-chair seat of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee and on the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee.
