U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) will take a bipartisan Congressional delegation to visit an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico’s Outer Continental Shelf as part of his annual Offshore Energy Tour on April 9 and 10.
“The 2015 Offshore Energy Tour will provide this diverse, bipartisan group of my colleagues with a better understanding of offshore energy production, which involves cutting-edge technologies, unparalleled safety standards and world-renowned ingenuity in implementing these large-scale projects,” Scalise said. “It is always important to bring members of Congress to southeast Louisiana to see first-hand how energy is produced in the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico, along with the good jobs and energy security that go along with it.”
The delegation will be made up of a number of legislators from both parties, including Reps. Larry Bucshon (R-IN), Buddy Carter (R-GA), Paul Cook (R-CA), Barbara Comstock (R-VA), Gene Green (D-TX), Richard Hudson (R-NC), Tim Walberg (R-MI), Mimi Walters (R-CA) and Ryan Zinke (R-MT).
In addition to the rig tour, the group will take an aerial tour of the Louisiana coastline, and visit leaders of the energy industry to learn more about Louisiana’s coastal erosion and how oil revenue sharing can work to restore the damaged areas.
“Experiencing offshore energy production is an incredible opportunity, and I am honored to lead these members on our seventh annual Offshore Energy Tour,” Scalise added. “American offshore energy production is a crucial part of an all-of-the-above national energy strategy that I fight for daily in Congress, despite President Obama’s anti-fossil fuel agenda.”
