Hanna said district to get $210,000 in stimulus grants

U.S. Rep. Richard Hanna (R-N.Y.) told Ripon Advance Monday that several agencies in upstate New York have been awarded grants totaling $210,000 to facilitate job creation and jump-start the area’s economy.

“It is my hope that this grant funding will be instrumental in helping to strengthen public and private partnerships to create more jobs for upstate New Yorkers,” Hanna said.

Within Hanna’s realm, the 22nd Congressional District, three separate regions each received a $70,000 award. The goal of the grant is to build a framework that will support planning for economic development processes and promote private capital investment, giving birth to new jobs for each region.
In the southern region, the grant was awarded to the Southern Tier East Regional Planning and Development Commission, which includes the counties of Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, and Tioga.

In the central part of the state, the grant was received by the Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board, covering the counties of Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga, and Oswego and the City of Syracuse.

In the Mohawk Valley region, the grant was awarded to the Mohawk Valley Economic Development District. This agency works for the counties of Fulton, Herkimer, Montgomery, Oneida, Otsego, and Schoharie.

“(These programs) can grow our local economies and create a strategy for keeping our neighbors working and our communities strong for years to come,” Hanna said.
