Granger retains State and Foreign Operations subcommittee roles for 114th Congress

U.S. Rep. Kay Granger (R-Texas), who will be the fourth-highest ranking Republican on the House State and Foreign Operations Committee during the 114th Congress, has retained her two subcommittee leadership roles with the committee.

The House Republican Steering Committee confirmed on Thursday that Granger will remain chairwoman of the Appropriations subcommittee and the vice-chair of the Defense subcommittee.

“I am honored to have the trust and support of Chairman (Hal) Rogers (R-Ky.) and of my colleagues,” Granger said. “I look forward to continuing the vital work of overseeing all U.S. foreign investments and working to ensure we maintain a robust national defense to meet the needs of the United States and our allies.”

Granger said the State and Foreign Operations committee budgets were made “leaner, but more effective” during her four years leading the Appropriations subcommittee. That will have to continue in the 114th Congress, she said.

“The world is a very complicated place today, and the U.S. faces some of the most difficult foreign policy and national security challenges in our history,” Granger said. “Our investments in our defense and foreign policy must reflect the seriousness of these challenges and exhibit strong U.S. leadership aboard. We must continue to have aggressive oversight and constantly assess the success of our foreign assistance. Additionally, we must continue to make smart investments and be responsible stewards of taxpayer funds.”

Granger also will be the highest-ranking Republican woman.
