NC governor’s military advisor appointed to VA committee

One year after North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory named Cornell A. Wilson Jr. as his military affairs advisor, the retired Marine Major General added a role with the U.S. Veterans Administration to his resume.

Wilson recently was appointed to the VA’s Advisory Committee for Minority Veterans, a group of recognized authorities in fields pertinent to the needs of the minority group they represent. Wilson is an African-American.

“This appointment is a testament to Gen. Wilson’s expertise and our commitment to making North Carolina the most veteran-friendly state in our nation,” McCrory said. “It is an honor to have Gen. Wilson on my staff as he provides us a unique perspective on numerous issues facing our military and veterans.”

Wilson and the Committee for Minority Veterans advise the Secretary of Congress on the VA’s administration of benefits, provide an annual report with recommendations to Congress and hold periodic town hall meetings to address veterans’ concerns.

In North Carolina, Wilson represents McCrory in matters relating to business and economic development in the military and defense community. The state has nearly 110,000 active duty military personnel, making it the third-largest military population in the country.
