Womack hosts NASA administrator to strengthen science partnership with Arkansas

U.S. Rep. Steve Womack (R-AR) on Nov. 8 hosted NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine in his Northwest Arkansas district to highlight local aerospace research and science education and to continue building a partnership between NASA and his home state.

“Aerospace research and science education is happening right here in the Third District, and it’s amazing to learn more about its connection to NASA,” Rep. Womack said. “It was a privilege to show Administrator Bridenstine around our community and have him provide insights to students and researchers about the next age of space exploration.”

The congressman and Bridenstine visited the University of Arkansas to discuss NASA-funded research initiatives at the institution.

“Northwest Arkansas is home to some of our country’s brightest engineers, researchers and students, and NASA is pleased to partner with the University of Arkansas in developing the next generation of STEM leaders through NASA-funded research,” Bridenstine said.

Rep. Womack and the administrator also attended meetings with Arkansas engineers and a science symposium event with students from several local elementary and high schools to discuss the importance of STEM education and aerospace research.

“Congressman Womack’s leadership on the House Appropriations Committee and House Committee on the Budget will ensure that Arkansas plays an integral role in advancing America’s leadership in space, science and exploration,” Bridenstine said.

The NASA administrator said he was also thankful for the opportunity to share with Rep. Womack’s Third District residents information about NASA’s Artemis lunar exploration program, which aims to put the first woman and the next man on the moon by 2024.
