Tiberi to chair Health Subcommittee

U.S. Rep. Pat Tiberi (R-OH) announced on Wednesday that he will chair the House Ways and Means Committee’s Health Subcommittee.

Tiberi replaces previous Subcommittee Chair Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX), who is leaving the position to chair the overall committee.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to chair the Health Subcommittee,” Tiberi said. “I look forward to working with Chairman Brady and other members of the subcommittee to find opportunities to improve the quality, affordability, and accessibility of healthcare, while creating the foundation for a patient-centered health care system for all Americans. We will build on our efforts to make Medicare more efficient and effective so we can keep Medicare’s promise to tomorrow’s seniors. As chairman, I plan to work with my colleagues to dismantle detrimental policies in Obamacare and reduce the impact on seniors, patients, employers, and providers.”

Tiberi has long been an opponent of Obamacare’s medical device tax and Cadillac tax. He also said this fall that he was planning a two-year Medicare reform effort to change how people pay into the program through the introduction of “premium supported” plans.

Tiberi will vacate his current role serving as the chairman of the Trade Subcommittee to take the new position.

“It has been an honor to serve most recently as the trade chairman,” Tiberi said. “I am proud of the work we did on Trade Promotion Authority providing more oversight and transparency for trade agreements. This was a critical piece of legislation that laid the groundwork for transparent consideration of agreements such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership. I look forward to remaining closely involved in trade matters moving forward. Meanwhile, I will also continue to pursue legislation that will encourage economic growth and job creation by continuing to serve on the Tax Policy Subcommittee.”

Representative Pat Tiberi (R-Ohio) has represented Ohio’s 12th District in the House of Representatives since 2001. Born in Columbus, Ohio in 1962, Rep. Tiberi previously served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1993 to 2000. Rep. Tiberi was educated at Ohio State University and married to Denice Tiberi.
