The Equitable Access to Care and Health (EACH) Act, authored by U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL) to expand the terms of the religious conscience exemption under Obamacare, passed the House with an unanimous vote last week.
In its essence, the EACH Act, would remove the legal obligation to purchase health insurance for individuals who rely solely on a religious method of healing or for whom taking life insurance would be against the terms of their religion.
“Obamacare violates our most basic right of religious freedom by forcing people to buy health insurance against their faith or otherwise face a penalty,” Davis said. “The EACH Act broadens the religious exemption to ensure those who rely solely on a religious method of healing, like Christian Scientists, are not forced to purchase health insurance when these services violate their religious beliefs.”
For Davis, the passing of the EACH Act is personal due to his affiliation with Christian Scientists.
“As the representative of Principe College, the only Christian Scientist school in the country, I believe this legislation is vital to protecting the religious liberties of many of my constituents,” Davis said.
