The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) awarded the University Park Airport in State College, Pennsylvania a grant totaling more than $1.4 million, U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson (R-PA) announced earlier this week.
The money will be used to used to refurbish the facility’s apron area, where planes are parked for maintenance and fueling.
“This funding is part of a much larger project to maintain and rehabilitate the University Park Airports facilities, making sure it is kept up-to-date with FAA standards,” Thompson said. “I commend the airport staff for their vision and hard work to ensure the airport serves our region for generations to come.”
The FAA funds will be utilized during the restoration of the nearly 400,000-square-yard apron area. Other projects coinciding with the apron improvements include the extension of taxiways, updates to utility infrastructure and the construction of new vehicle parking lots within the airport facility.
