As the ink from President Obama’s signature was drying on the Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities & Accountability Act on Monday, legislation to renew Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) reiterated his support of the action.
“This is a pivotal moment for our country and U.S. trade policy,” Hatch, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, explained. “With Trade Promotion Authority back on the books, our nation can now successfully pave the way for new trade agreements that will guarantee goods and services created by American workers are able to enter and effectively compete in overseas markets. This critical trade tool enhances Congress’ role in international trade negotiations, ensures our chief trade negotiators will get the very best deals for our country, and holds the key to unlocking new markets and further breaking down trade barriers for American exports.”
In addition to the increased safety and security for the American economy that TPA brings, Hatch also discussed the numerous other benefits that will be realized under the new legislation.
“This means more economic growth and better opportunities for American farmers, ranchers, manufacturers and entrepreneurs,” Hatch said. “While this new law represents a true reflection of bipartisan work and is a major win for the American people and our nation as a whole, our work has just begun.
