Burr, Tillis pleased with DRIVE Act’s inclusion of North Carolina projects

The inclusion of Interstate 44 and the U.S. 70 corridors in North Carolina in the Developing a Reliable and Innovative Vision for the Economy (DRIVE) Act brought a round of applause from U.S. Sens. Richard Burr (R-NC) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) last week.

Willis and Burr introduced the legislation that proposed including I-44 to Hampton Roads and the U.S. 70 corridors through North Carolina in the DRIVE ACT, the nation’s proposed long-term transportation funding bill.

“Not only is this a boon to the North Carolinians living along the corridors, but for all of those who will have better access to our state, whether it’s to do business or to visit our scenic treasures,” Burr said.

The legislative measures were included as part of the surface transportation bill sponsored by the Senate Department of Environment and Public Works.

“The inclusion of our transportation and infrastructure legislation in the DRIVE Act is a win for the people of North Carolina,” Tillis said. “A continued focus on improving our state’s infrastructure and supporting the creation of good-paying North Carolina jobs, the funding for this legislation is essential in promoting economic growth for our local economies.”
